Dr. James Horst
Behavioral Health Medical DirectorDr. James Horst serves as TeamHealth’s Chief Clinical Officer for Behavioral Health and serves as the Behavioral Health Medical Director for AccessNurse, TeamHealth's affiliate company.
Triple-boarded in child, adult and geriatric psychology, Dr. Horst is a graduate of the University Health Science College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a three-year residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, serving as chief resident in his third year. In addition, he completed a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Wayne State University in Detroit, where he served as chief fellow.
Dr. Horst has served on numerous medical boards, is extensively published, and considered a psychiatry content expert nationally. His leadership background includes a ten-year tenure as a member of the executive board of the American Osteopathic College of Neurology and Psychiatry, and his research participation includes work with the TADS Study, CAPS DX Study, and PRISM II study. He is a fellow of both the American College of Neurology and Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.
Before joining TeamHealth, he was the founder, president and CEO of North Carolina Elderly Psychiatric Services (NCEPS) and Resilience Behavioral Health. In those roles, Dr. Horst oversaw organizations that provided essential behavioral health services to over 450 facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
